Checking Out of the Boredom Hotel is a short, hand-bound poetry collection I wrote and assembled in 2004 (just one copy for myself). The ten experimental poems explore themes of boredom, loneliness, isolation, disappointment, indulgence, escape, pop culture, absurdity, and the delight of moving to a new city (replete with an array of fresh sights, sounds, food, and people).

These twelve recordings were made September 2020 and are an aural re-exploration of the poetry book. Although the poems are only loosely related, I’ve always imagined each one as a room in the surreal, haunting, and unpredictably wacky Boredom Hotel. This is what I’ve attempted to capture here.
